About Us


Grants beginning at $2000 per year are awarded to students entering or already attending college. Students who maintain the required minimum grade point average may be eligible to continue to receive the grant in subsequent years.


To be considered for a grant, you must:

  1. Be nearing graduation from high school, or having already graduated.
  2. Be an unmarried student with at least one dependent child
  3. Live in the greater San Diego area.
  4. Have a demonstrated financial need. Submitting the FAFSA is recommended.
  5. Have a minimum grade point average of 2.0.
  6. Have applied for admission to or attend an accredited community college or not-for-profit four year college or university in the San Diego area.
  7. Have also applied for other state or federal grants, such as Cal Grant, Pell Grant, or Board of Governors Waiver, etc.

Covered Expenses

S.L. Scholarship Foundation grants may pay for a variety of living expenses necessary for a single parent to attend college. Expenses covered may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Note that S.L. Scholarship Foundation grants do not pay for tuition and books. Those expenses are typically funded through other sources, such as Cal Grants and Pell Grants from the state and federal government.

The application period for this grant is open now, and will close on June 15, 2015. The application can be accessed here and must be mailed in. Awardees will be notified by mail or email.
